I am a new PT. I have been working as a sole trader in group fitness for three years and two months ago I got my PT certificate. I am still a sole trader but I would like to gain some experience as PT in a gy, so I have been applying for jobs.
I eventually have an interview next week. The job description said they were looking for a PT for the gym and that they would offer three days trianing on their policies and stuff. SO I assumed They were looking for an employee.
However, when I talked to the manager in teh phone, he mention ” you see what you think of our health club and then you can bring your clients”. SO now I am confused: are they looking for a contractor or an employee? Is there anything in between? Like gym floor hours and then bringing my own clients also?
If the gym owner offered you to bring your clients there, it sounds to me that they are looking for independent contractors. If that it the case, you will need to negotiate your the fee you will be paying that gym. It can be either a flat fee or a small % of your hourly rate. Be sure to read what ever contract they will present to you and if there is something you don’t agree with or don’t understand, ask questions. I’m not sure why it takes 3 days to teach someone their policies and rules, but you will need to ask about it when you go in for an interview (if there is one). It’s a good idea to do as he suggested and go to the gym to check it out and also have the opportunity to clarify all of the questions you might have.
