I am a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I understand that the nature of the fitness business is that the majority of clients are available early mornings or in the evenings. For some reasons beyond my control, those times can be particularly hard for me to work with. I am looking to train people during daytime hours, say 7:30am-4:00pm. What kind of clients would be available during those times and how could I market myself to them? Thanks!
personally, I do not train early in the morning and usually do not even start before 9 AM. Even though the others are correct in saying that people are very flexible nowadays, I only have one client in that group who still works, and I train her in her lunch hour. All the others are retired or do not work.
While you ultimately need to market yourself, you may find that a focus on marketing towards the older clientele may be useful.
You may be surprised by the flexibility of people’s schedules these days. I train and teach anywhere from 5:30 a.m to 2 p.m. on most days, and many of my clients are professionals who either work from home, meet with me on their lunch hour, or can set their own schedules. Some of my clients are also stay-at-home moms or seniors. Can you also train on the weekends? Some people also like to train in the mornings or early afternoons on the weekends.
I would go ahead and focus on marketing yourself and your skill set. It may take a little while for you to build a client base, but you will find all types of clients may be available during the hours you can work.
Best of luck to you.
Although in our profession the early AM and late afternoon to evening hours are usually the best times for training clients, it doesn’t mean that during the day hours it won’t work. Some of the types of clients available during the daytime are stay-home moms, individuals who have a lot of flexibility on their schedule (people who work from home), maybe some corporate fitness opportunities as well, any type of fitness classes at various gyms which are looking for instructors and then people who are retired (usually seniors and older). Community centers are also a good idea to keep in mind, because they are always looking for instructors to teach classes there.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
