What kind of clients would I market to for training during daytime hours (7:30am – 4:00pm)?
I am a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I understand that the nature of the fitness business is that the majority of clients are available early mornings or in the evenings. For some reasons beyond my control, those times can be particularly hard for me to work with. I am looking to train people during daytime hours, say 7:30am-4:00pm. What kind of clients would be available during those times and how could I market myself to them? Thanks!
I own my studio. There is a difference if you own your studio or travel to different studios to train people. Most morning individuals are stay at home moms, retired, or shift workers. With owning my studio I have found a morning crowd as mentioned. But, then I have a large gap of time until, about 3pm when many people are through working. That gap in time can be a loss of capital if you employ trainers and, utilities. I live and operate in a smaller town. It may be different in a larger city. Nurses that work shifts or a steady shift can be a great resource. I am located between two hospitals. if you train independent you may want to see if you can work near a hospital. if you get one nurse, more will come. Try to find a promo that will attract nurses or student nurses, they usually are nice to train.
Hi! I train mostly young stay at home moms but a large part of my client base either work in the restaurant industry or are artists. Both groups of people tend to be young and full of enthusiasm. I also train someone who works in tech (from home) – he has very flexible hours and takes a long lunch. I think you’ll find that there is a very wide range of people who are available during the day. As a matter of fact, when I was training early at a gym I had the least amount of clients! No one wanted to train before 8AM.
good luck!
Hi Melanie,
I have similar availability as you and I mostly train retired seniors or nurses in those hours. Another option to consider is kids! Find out what time local schools get out and market accordingly.

Hi Melanie. I have several clients in the middle of the day. For the most part they are either stay-at-home moms, federal employees with flexible schedules, academics or retirees. Marketing to each of these groups might be slightly different ‘except for’ of course the available midday training availability.
