My pet peeve with the fitness industry combines some of the previous comments:
Lack of education
Going outside the scope of practice
Unqualified trainers leading group exercise programs
Fitness trainers can fix anything
The main peeve is that …the fitness industry allows all of this to happen; it doesn’t fix these issues and define its image.
Mention the word ‘fitness’ to most people and certain images usually pop up:
a) drill instructor
b) big bulging muscles
c) ‘aerobic class instructors’ (yep, I’ll bet someone still uses the term)
d) ‘sweating buckets’
None of these images project a clear (or accurate) picture of the fitness industry.
Will things change? Only time will tell…
Great question. Mine is pretty much that a lot of our industry concentrates too much on appearance over Health and function. I have seen trainers push clients to starve themselves and leave their clients with no energy. Not to mention that cardiovascular training is taken out of the equation also.
