Not a big fan of supplements. Supplements are just a replacement for bad nutrition.
If anything, I would suggest protein at no younger than 18.
Best,
I also feel that supplement use by chldren is inappropriate. Only if it has been determined by a physician or dietician that the child needs assistance in overcoming a deficiency would I consider such a choice. I do know that future dietary choices are extremely influenced by those choices made for children in their homes while growing up. It is very important for parents to provide sound dietary guidance during a child’s developmental years. Parents that are uncertain about how to provide this guidance should consult a registered dietician.
I think that suggesting supplements to kids or even teenagers can send the wrong messages. Unless there is some type of deficiency and a physician or a dietitian has prescribed one, there is really no need to promote at those ages (or any age in a matter of fact). The danger with supplements and kids or teenagers, is that they could very easily start abusing them which can lead to a number of other issues. At that age, everyone feels indestructible and many of them will do what ever it takes to improve their fitness level, physique and overall image. But the most important think here is the fact that they will think it’s ok to take outside aids in order to improve their physical conditioning so they can compete at a higher level. This could easily turn to something more which also makes it an ethical issue as well.
