What is the next big trend in group fitness?
I am certified in Body Pump, Body Step, Sh’Bam and CX Worx. I’ve been a group ex instructor for 23 years. We see HUGE numbers in Body Pump, CX Worx and Zumba. Body Combat brings a lot of folks out too. Body Step is on the down side slightly, as well as Pilates. Boot Camps are moderately attended, as well as cycle as seen a slight increase due to RPM coming to our club. I also teach corporate Boot Camps and my numbers are about the same, if not down some from 2 years ago. I find myself constantly researching for new ideas.
And ALL 3 were correct!!!
Boot-camps have made a major increase, I see and conduct more fusion type training in group and individual settings, and I have wittnessed the coming and going of several new group programs that were overcomplicated, understaffed and performed in a manner counter-productive to healthy movement (but, I see this every year. I also see really professional group sessions chalk full of creative safety monitoring, using less eyes but seeing more {i.e. staggered 1/2 circle formations})
The coolest part is I have seen more hybrid (fusion) bootcamps this year. I love this! It usually combines agility, conditioning, and technique drills related to a specific activity; with strength, form, and functional efficiency exercises. Group environments are amazing for this kind of training because of their competitive/co-operative atmosphere.
