what is the best way to reduce weight dieting or exercise
Hi Tamil,
Both are equally important. Depending on your goals and current fitness level you need to incorporate a well balanced plan which combines a diet that is customized to your needs and a fitness plan that will help you get to your goals faster and more efficiently. Talking to a dietitian will save you a lot of bad choices and time because she/he will guide you to make the right choices. The same goes for hiring a trainer. The trainer will help you reach those goals faster and safer. Also, if you have any type of medical condition or injury it would be wiser for you to spent some money and work with a dietitian and a trainer, so you can avoid some mistakes and choices that would make it more difficult for you to lose weight and improve your physical condition.
Best,
Harris
Hi Tamil. As Harris suggests, both a healthy diet and healthy exercise are important to safe and effective weight loss. Here I’m answering your question using both diet and exercise as nouns so to speak.
If your question is treating the terms ‘diet’ and ‘exercise’ as verbs, then I would answer slightly differently. Then your question of ‘which is the BEST,’ either diet[ing] OR exercis[ing] would cause me to answer EXERCISING. Treating this question very literally, I generally answer when given only ONE choice of either diet or exercise, that exercise is perhaps the BEST way to reduce weight because with ‘proper’ exercise not only comes the potential for losing weight, but also perhaps more importantly, the potential to change your body composition (i.e. lean tissue versus body fat), which over the long term will be healthier than simple losing weight.
There’s a lot more to the answer to your question, but hopefully, the nuance in the difference between the two answers I’ve given above will make sense. Good luck!

In general, I think both are important and necessary for overall health improvement.
However, surprisingly, if you were just looking at and either/or scenario and could only choose one, I would say cutting calories and diet would help you to lose weight better and faster. There have been several articles and studies over the last two years that look at this issue. Here is one from the Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-loss/AN01619
Good luck,
