What is the best part of being a personal trainer?
Somebody once said that when you love what you are doing, then you never have to work for another day of your life. From that perspective, I do not work at all.
I view myself as a catalyst in a client’s life. Even though I am not actively participating in the process, my presence is necessary for the transformation to occur.
The best part for me is to see the wonder in a client’s face when he/she just did something that she had considered entirely beyond her crasp. Seeing confidence building, starting with physical confidence, and then permeating into all areas of his life.
And then the mundane side: sneakers as a dress code, my own schedule and my own standards, no call to meetings that end in nothing, and having my dog with me all the time. Life is good.
Except for the sometimes odd hours, there isn’t anything I dislike about my job. I love being able to help people, watch their confidence grow, etc. I get to wear shorts and tennis shoes all day – no heels and dresses in an office! I live in Florida, so I get to train clients at the beach, etc. Life is good!
This is an “easy answer” for me! I love people and helping people. So having the opportunity to meet someone new, help them delve into what their goals and motivations are, and to work with them as we start the journey of reaching those goals is very, very satisfying for me. I train an extremely diverse population (anything from a 6-year old tennis prodigy, to a 85 year old couple), and this is all part of the enjoyment of what I do — trying to figure out the different ways to motivate, entertain, and teach clients with such a diverse interest and motivation. I LOVE IT!
