I keep all my IDEA journals for references. I also use my ACE personal trainer manual and my ACE exercise science book quite often. I’m a believer in psychological well-being. Fitness, to me, starts with the mind. I keep a few “self-help” books on the shelf. I think one of the best books out there right now is called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. It’s all about the now, as you probably guessed by the title. I think my favorite quote out of this book is “All problems are illusions of the mind.” It puts things in perspective. It’s all about a sense of control. What are you in control of at this very moment? What can you do about a certain situation at this very moment? Things like that.
It’s been helpful with my clients because getting them to think about the now, takes their minds off of all the other stresses that are going on. For that one hour, that NOW, my client has made a committment to better his/her mind and body by releasing all that built up energy and stress through exercise.
