What is good cardio for clients with limited mobility?
Aquatic exercise is excellent for all clients. I just put a college football prospect through a series of water workouts and he was amazed at the effort it took. And his 40 time is down .2 seconds. Though not all due to the aquatic work.
And my deep water class is loaded with mobility challenges. All are getting rave reviews from their doctors.

I’m not sure what a recovery board is but…Another idea which may be practical for your setting (assuming an arm ergometer is not) is to set up a chair with a light band behind it and have her march very quickly in the chair while either punching forward with the band behind or upward with the band below the chair. This WILL increase her heart rate if done quickly and usually doesn’t cause knee pain.
Hello,
I read your question about raising the heart rate of a member w/knee ROM limitation. Without direct knowledge of the situation(environment, personal particulars, etc.) being very general with my assumption of the w/o setup & area…
Assuming the recovery board sits @ least 3-6 inches off ground, if she can step up & down without much discomfort…
ask her to stand on 1 leg (keeping knees softly bent, never locked) & direct her in some varying arm rotations as a start. DO NOT ALLOW HER TO LOOK @ GROUND (remembering to alternate leg of course :D)
1. will keep her n tact w/group
2. will challenge her balance (bonus to whatever your doing already)
3. can help to build more stability in the knee (consider motion @ knee wisely, if @ all)
4. can add a new dimension for challenge for ALL w/some modification
Key: think safety, improvement factor, client comfort
The knee is a major activity center for body. It should, must be treated w/care or ….
…just a quick thought, hope it’s useful
