What insurance do I need for a home base training studio?
LaRue’s response is right on the mark. I have my personal training studio in the basement of my house. Although it is not zoned for business, I am able to have my home-based business with certain restrictions,so definitely check your local zoning laws.
Be sure to discuss your business plan with your insurance agent regarding homeowners insurance. Some insurance companies will not provide coverage for a home-based business that have clients/customers coming to the residence on a regular basis, i.e. training studio. The insurer does not want to insure due to the increase in liability. You may have to switch insurance companies to get the needed coverage, that’s what happened to me. Be prepared to have an increase in the premiums. My agent explained the increase is comparable to the cost for coverage if my studio was located in a commercial building.
Good luck,
