Over the last couple of years I’ve participated in a few types of barre classes (The Bar Method, Core Fusion, Physique 57 and some other variations). I enjoyed the ballet inspired exercises targeting buttocks, hips, thighs and abs while emphasizing good form/alignment and using low weights/high reps. Although it’s a total body workout, an unexpected but welcomed result was a noticeable slimming effect on my hips/thighs after taking just a few classes spread over a couple of weeks. In most instances the instructors I had were well trained and offered useful cues and corrections. The classes I took were not cardio but I sweated enough for a great training effect and my posture was definitely taller afterwards. I certainly recommend taking a barre class from any of the methods mentioned above for an interesting and challenging change of pace.
