What do you think about Tribesports?
Hi Harris,
thanks for posting this question. I had not heard of it and therefore went to their web site and browsed.
One part of it I find quite intriguing. It seems a great site where activity-minded people can find each other and exchange ideas and post challenges. I am sure that has appeal and will help some people stay motivated. That is a plus.
As I further browsed I looked at some discussion forums and checked out wheat they had on strength training. As am example: A guy had posted a question about his shoulder that was hurting after bench pressing. The advice he got was – for the most part – what you would hear in the gym between buddies who may mean well but often do not know what they are talking about. That worried me and puts a minus there.
On balance, I hope that this will do more good than harm. If it gets 1000 people moving at the expense of one rotator cuff injury …… I guess it’s good.
If those who wish to accept the challenges do so in a manner that is well prepared for… great! I love new challenges when they help me measure my own abilities. However, I predict injuries due to lack of proper education for some who just want to conquer the challenges. But, you’ll see me on here.
Thanks for your answers. I totally agree with both of you. Tribesports can be a great way to motivate clients and also those who are looking for something extra to do. However, I do agree with the fact that there will be few who will get injured due to luck of proper supervision. But, I’ll have to say, I like some of the challenges in here!
Whenever I see the word Challenge I become concerned that it will become a competition.
Humans are into “being the best” and “beating everyone”, so whenever they take on a challenge, they lose sight of the task which is proper form in order to become fit and fitter, not to beat a competitor.
I think goal setting is a great thing but in all honesty, most people will not push themselves to the max when they are alone.
Without speaking directly about Tribesports itself I can only say that, in my opinion, some of the “challenge activities” that I saw on the site would give me pause in terms of either performing them myself or in recommending them to one of my clients.
