What do you suggest is the best way for me to go about finding other personal trainers interested in renting my space to train?
I’d like to offer up my training studio to other personal trainers in order for them to make their own money at their own rate. It would include full 24-7 access, with their own ADT security code and key to the studio. at a mere $400/month with a 3 month minimum commitment……trainers are making no money for all their efforts and these local health clubs and I’d like to seem them change that around.
If I had a studio, I would be very careful about who would get access to it. It sounds like your vision and intentions are good and admirable, but unfortunately, not everybody else shares those things.
First, I would check with reputable fitness organizations: IDEA, ACSM, Can-Fit-Pro, CPTN, etc..for leads (most have a section on their website where people advertise their space).
Second, I would perform a thorough interview and screening process, complete with references, criminal check, etc..Also, maybe talk to their clients…
Third, a security camera probably isn’t a bad idea. Of course, people have to be made aware of camera presence…
Fourth, maybe notify fellow business owners in your area? Sort of a “neighborhood watch” program…
Fifth, consider stopping by unannounced at different times/days? Just to see what’s going on…
Beyond that, I guess you just have to trust your gut. Best of luck to you!
You can always put it on your website and screen people. But make sure someone is with you when they come to check the space out, I always had an escape route planned (one never knows!)
I always go by my gut feeling
I also would suggest a security deposit, a list of references, valid I.D. etc, signed contract all done prior to them starting.
I would give them a DO NOT DUPLICATE key and changed the locks and security code often
You received some really great answers here, and some solid advice. I’m curious as to whether you proceeded with your idea, and if so, how has it turned out so far?

As an owner of a small studio, I find it very hard to find good trainers, with the whole package! I found the best way was from local college interns or just graduating. They seem to be the most available as far as schedules, ready to put their studies into action, and go getters as far as recruiting clients! Yes, they lack the experience, but most people that go into our fields have a background in fitness, sports, or the passion to help people! The benefit, is you can start their pay at a lower scale, and increase as they show their value!
I also have gone to local gyms websites and looked under their trainers and read their Bios to see if they might be the type of trainer I was looking for…you can find more specific areas they specialize in! And most good trainers don’t like to stay in gyms to long- I can’t offer them Insurance, but they don’t have to work the usual floor hours, they can come and go as they please, and I pay them more per hour!
