What do you do with a client that seem to have made the most gains that she can.
I have a client that I have been working with for almost a year now twice a week. She has turned a 360 with me & I am so very proud of her efforts, motivation & consistency. Heres the problem. We have been doing some of the same things now for a while because I find each time I try to move forward to the next level she physically cant do it. I know she has the ability but for some reason she loses her confidence. I remind her of how far she has come & she gains a bit more confidence but she still cant get through the exercise. I tell her we will try it another time. Any suggestions or has anyone had this experience with their clients. I have been a trainer for 25+ yrs & have never ran into this before.
Her original goal was to lose weight/get stronger. She has made great gains in the gaining strength dept. but she admits to loving her food. During the first week of Jan. and I asked her if we can try & focus a little bit about healthy eating. She agreed to keeping a food journal so we can review her choices of food. I reminded her of her original goals & told said I know you feel really good about yourself & everything your doing, but you could feel even better. She was excited about that.
What I am referring to about” not being able to move forward is we all know diet is at least 80% of the reason why people who have goals to lose weight cant lose weight if they don’t make those dietary changes. What happens is it stands in the way of making progress because some of the exercises that I want her to perform & she is ready to perform are not doable because of her weight getting in the way of her performance. For example, we have been doing Push Up off the Smith Machine bar, 3 sets of 15, for quite some time. If I take her to floor to do a bent knee push up she can maybe do 2. I don’t get that! Just an example. This happens with many exercise progressions.
I thought about it again today & I decided that we will use the exercises she does well & perhaps increase the sets, same with Cardio, increase the time & frequency & maybe with the small dietary changes we are going to make we can get the weight to come off a little bit.
