I am preparing to train a female client who is 68 years old. I train mainly athletes who are in high school. I am wondering what considerations do you make when you are developing a program with their warm-up, exercises, and cool down? Her goal is to improve her strength. She prefers using free weights over machines. Any help and advice is appreciated.
The focus of overall functionality is key when training older adults. While athletes are looking to improve ‘their game’ with great specificity, older adults are typically more interested in improving their overall quality of living or maintain their independence.
If she has any type of CVD-including HTN, the time and intensity of the transitional phases of each workout (warming up and cooling down) are extremely important.
