Industry leaders will tell you that working with people over 50 is a growth industry – so true. They are looking for positive role models to help them stay active as they age. Three years ago I pushed the midlife re-set button and left a 20 year career to focus first on my health and then I decided I wanted to help others. It has been an amazing experience and I am continually inspired by the people I meet. I work part time out of 2 gyms now; it took me 6 months after getting certified to get up the courage to approach a gym as a 49 year old and ask for a job. I am blessed that the trainers I work with, while younger than me, are just really wonderful people and very generous with their support of me and each other. Overall the response has been fabulous and some members have told me they appreciate having someone closer to their age to train with because I understand the aches/pains/hormone changes etc. Not that it makes me go easy on them 🙂 In addition to personal training, I took the bootcamp idea and created an outdoor walkFIT program at one gym – all low impact exercises combined with brisk walking. I also work with teenaged athletes on injury prevention. My clients are all ages. Have FUN and good luck!
