What can a personal trainer expect to make hourly?
This is a very important topic for my consideration of personal training, I realize that alot goes into how much you can make. This is the job I plan to have while in college therefore I need to have the ability to pay for my rent at the very least, main point of this is as a first time personal trainer with a nationaly accredited certification would it be reasonable to expect to make $1000 a month working no more than 30 hours a week?
Working as a private trainer and certified strength coach out of my own facility most of my private and semi-private sessions average at about $70 per hour. That number comes down quite a bit after you factor out rent, maintenance and required insurance. My schedule is full now but that took years in the business and continuous program innovation to maintain a full schedule.
Good Luck!

It also depends on if you work for a gym or as a private trainer. I work as a private trainer out of a studio and get paid per session. Depending on the length of the session and how many days a week the client comes, I make a decent salary. This also works for my schedule since I’m my own boss, and I get to decide when I’m coming in. I charge $35 for a half-hour, $50 for 45 minutes, and $70 for an hour. I hope that was helpful!
Hi Logan,
Everyone else has given you some great information regarding your question and there is really not much left for me to add. The only other thing you could also try is group training not so much for the extra money but more for you to get exposed to this type of training style. In the long run it will be very beneficial to your career as trainer and/or instructor. Good luck to you!
This depends on a number of factors: where you work, type of clientele, type of certifications, and training/fitness experience. Working in a club setting can be beneficial because of lead generation but they will name the price that you are able to charge hourly for a client. At larger box gyms they will have new trainer take a placement test and this will determine which tier of trainer you are and how much you can charge a client. Typically I would say that working for a company you will typically start off making between $15-25 dollars an hour depending on your placement. On the other hand if you are free lancing it can range on your needs and the clients needs. For a trainer that is starting out and trying to build clients on there own I would typically start at $15-40 per hour session. This information provided is mostly opinion but also takes into account the trends in our business structure.
