Not so much a fitness trend but a business trend. At some point in time, personal training studios were all but crowded out by large gyms with a staff of ‘personal trainers’. While some of those trainers were very good, many were novices and more interested in selling than conducting personal training.
I have recently seen a greater number of personal training studios popping up, also in places where there has to be substantial cost for leasing space. While some of them are specialty studio for Pilates, yoga and Gyrotonics, some are more of the traditional type.
What are the trends in new types of fitness clubs?
The magazine “More”/September, 2012/ had gave us example of one studio, that had became a citywide phenomenon boasting such fans as Kyra Sedgwick and Katie Couric. The name of this unique place is the SoulCycle, the owner – Julie Rice.
“Today, SoulCycle has expanded to six studios across the New York metropolitan area, plus one in the Hamptons and another in Los Angeles….At SoulCycle the rooms are darkened, lit with candles.Sessions begin with meditation. Then the workouts builds to a push-the-limit climax…The workout ends as participants gradually slow down their velocity, cool down. ”
This trend – a stand-alone boutique studio,in which riders were guided to use yoga breathing rather than compete to outride the other people.
