Rest and let it heal! Be very gentle. It’s amazing what the body can do when given a good environment to heal.

There is never a best, best it what works for you or the client

This is a tricky situation

I would find the “best” PT that specializes in shoulders after seeing an Orthopedic

Exercise won’t heal a torn labrum. You can strengthen the surrounding musculature to assist the connective tissue in stabilizing the joint. Before doing any exercise or working with a client with such issues, clearance to exercise is absolutely necessary.

Once cleared to exercise, the entire kinetic chain should be assessed for a number of potential issues from imbalances to ROM limitations or joint laxity. Everything depends on the client’s overall readiness to not only exercise, but move correctly at every joint. There are so many subtle things to be aware of and be able to observe and understand the integrated relationship to the client’s mechanics, I would need to assess the client to give more advice than this.

Hello Grace Swartz,
I would also refer this person to a physical therapist and doctor. Ask the client to bring pictures home; because, the client may forget everything they were doing or communicate things differently. That way you will be able to carefully help them continue the healing process after therapy completion.
Take care,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.

I agree with Nancy. See a licensed physical therapist or an orthopedist to first of all determine the extent of injury to the labrum and second to determine the best types of exercise to strengthen the rotators, abductors and adductors at the shoulder.

Good luck
