I’m not a yoga instructor but some of my favorites to share with other people are triangle pose to downward facing dog, warrior pose variations, cobra to child’s pose, cat to cow pose: http://www.fitsugar.com/How-Do-Cat-Cow-Pose-26662589. You can also apply the same principles of counter pose to resistance training by countering pushing exercises with pulling exercises, eccentric and concentric loading and alternating sides.
Hello Allison John,
I am not a yoga instructor; but, I do have some thoughts that I hope help you.
Yoga is personal; therefore, we all start at a different point according to our own conditions.
Sun salutations are fun and countering, so are moon salutations. You may want to try hatha yoga which is sun and moon balancing each other, also.
You will also find that we do many yoga moves, but, call it something else. For example, Naukasana(boat) is what you may know as Superman.
Please do not try to get into the extreme pose as you see someone else do; just go as far as the body allows. Remember, yoga is personal, not competitive.
Have you thought about taking a yoga class or two through your community?
