Updating an expired certification…
Hi. I was certified by IDEA as an aerobics instructor many years ago. Taught group fitness for 25 years but let the certification expire. I am now certified as an aquatic fitness instructor through both AAAI/ISMA and AEA. I’m wondering if there is a shortcut to a GF certification without starting all over. I am certified as a senior personal trainer with ASFA; I’m also an American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor. I taught Physical Education and Health for 30 years, have a Masters Degree in Public Health, and currently do personal training and teach water fitness in Boulder, CO. I’m also a presenter for Body Bar in a new program which I developed called AquaFLEX (this is the main reason I’d like to update my group fitness cert).
Hi MaryAnn. It seems to me that your best bet would be to check with the specific organization you are interested in getting your Group Fitness certification from. As I’m sure you know, each organization has its own requirements for obtaining its certification, and I’m sure some out there give credit for an extensive fitness background/career as well.
I wish you luck!
