Type of Liability Coverage Needed
I am starting a gym and need to know what type of coverage I’ll need. Classes offered are Crossfit, Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, and Zumba, with the potential of renting out space for a Judo class. Do I need the Health Club Liability Insurance or the Group Fitness Insurance since these are all instructor lead group classes. No open gym or unsupervised access. There are also no large machines like treadmills, ellipticals or anything of that nature.
Thanks
Hi Andrew,
check with your insurance company. I am pretty sure that this requires health club insurance.

From the way it sounds I’m fairly certain you’ll need health club insurance. Especially if you’re the one “starting the gym.”
Michael made a good suggestion about the importance of having those who work for you or rent space from you being insured. Their type of insurance, however, would most likely be something more along the lines of group fitness insurance.
I, too, recommend you talk with an insurance company or an attorney about what would be best.
Best of luck to you with the new gym!
Hello Andrew Hardy,
Congratulations on the new venture and good luck with it.
I would feel more comfortable checking out all my options. Therefore, I would talk to the insurance providers as well as business lawyers in the area. You will probably be able to find free consultations that will help in choosing a lawyer you like and trust.
This is an important topic to take care of properly.
Take care.
