I’m in the process of setting up a website where yoga teachers can upload audios of their yoga classes for free. Each time someone clicks on one of your audios you will make money.
It’s a great way of creating “passive income streams” simply by connecting a ┬ú45 lavilier microphone to a smartphone and clicking the record button.
It can quickly morph into a pretty nifty “online training program” for your students. For example, if one of your students is struggling with sleeping and you’ve recorded a class called: “15 minute nighttime yoga routine to help you sleep like a baby”, you could simply let the student know how to access it online.
Here’s another example…
If one of your students approaches you with an issue (e.g. lower back pain), when you get home you could whip out your phone, insert the lavilier microphone, record yourself doing a 15 minute “yoga for lower back routine”, upload it to the website and then send an email to your student letting them know its available online. This way you not only created a raving fan (who will start sending you lots of lovely referrals), you’ve also created a passive income stream (people all over the world will be able to download or stream the audio).

One more option I have used for clients I know I can trust they will do what I’m asking them to do, is to train them by texting. When the option of Skype was not available, texting was the next best thing available. Once they let me know they’ve completed an exercise I gave them, I would text them the next one :-)!
Hi Mary, check out www.Fiturgy.com to help you with promoting your personal training services. This online platform and mobile application will allow you to create a profile with all of your specialties and qualifications, which clients can then access and use to connect with you. Via the platform, you can choose to offer either in person training, online custom training programs, or online pre-built workouts that you can post on your profile and clients can access, either for free or for purchase, at your request. Feel free to sign up at www.Fiturgy.com to be one of the first to test the beta version of the soon to be launched platform or email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.
When this type of issue arises, the best way it to decide and evaluate which of your clients will be good candidates for training online. Some will be ok with it, others they prefer a personal training in-person. Also, can you trust them in following your directions and work out postings? I would stick with Skype since it’s the next best option to in-person training. Email is a good alternative as well, but then you have no way of knowing if they did what they were supposed to do and in the correct form. The other option is to sell your business or contacts and start fresh where ever you are moving too.
Hi Mary. I like your thinking here! We as trainers sometimes have to be flexible and think outside the box. I think that what you are suggesting is definitely doable. A lot will depend on the client(s) involved and your, and their, comfort level with training them long distance. There are definitely some clients that this would work for, but you will have to use your best judgment as to which ones they are. That analysis has to be YOURS to make, and not simply rely upon which clients say that they want to keep training with you. If, in your opinion, they’re not a good candidate for this type of “long-distance training,” then I would be candid with them about that and not try to take them on in this way.
That’s my opinion. I hope this helps.
