I think it is a great idea but you have to be sure that all your participants are pet lovers; and that it doesn’t distract from the workout in any way.
Ask: Will they get a better workout if Pet is there? Or will it help with adherence? Even with getting better retention with the pet, be sure that you’re not losing some clients because they prefer not to have one there.
I’m actually trying to teach my dog some moves or workouts he could help me with. His name is Mudder, named after Tough Mudder 🙂 Tug-O-War with long ropes (or using him as the anchor point on battle ropes), bag drags, ball rolls, etc. This will probably end up being more for my own enjoyment, however!
