I had a client just recently who came in feeling down in the dumps because of her job. Work had stressed her out that day and she found out that she didn’t get the new job that she had applied for, so it turned out that she was going to be stuck at the current job. Knowing my client, I knew that she was more angry, or mad and upset, than she was hurt or sad.
I took a hard and fast approach with her, and I motivated her through a session where she proceeded to completely humiliate every piece of equipment that she put on and every exercise that she performed. I had to wash the gym windows just to give the gym back its sense of dignity once she was done with it!
Needless to say, exercise was the outlet for anger and frustration for my client on this day. She left the gym completely different than she came in. She was ready to take on the world again. It was an awesome feeling to have been able to be there to witness and be a part of that!
