There is no such thing as being able to “special order” a reduction in a body part

Reducing “fat” requires increasing your energy expenditure while decreasing your caloric intake/or better yet making healthy food choices.

Hello Susmita,

while you cannot ‘spot reduce’, it is possible to ‘spot build’.

As Susan pointed out, you can only reduce overall body fat, and thus the fat on the back of your body will gradually disappear with it

It is also important, though, to increase your strength and build some muscle (don’t worry it won’t be much – women are just not made for gaining large muscles) so that the overall appearance is even more complimentary. I would suggest to to a few strength exercises for the entire body with some extra focus on the back.

Hi Susmita,

I agree with the other two. There is no ‘spot reducing’ in our terminology. A good diet plan and exercise program will help you lower your overall body fat % and increase your lean mass. If you have the ability to spend some time with a trainer you should do it in order to reach these goals as fast and efficient as possible.

Best,
Harris

Hi Susmita,

I agree that there is no spot reduction on any one area. However, a great way to achieve a reduction in fat is to combine a healthy, clean diet (free of processed foods) with a combination of strength training and cardio workouts. Adding more muscle has a greater calorie burning effect on the body, so be sure to include strength training!

Clearly there is no truth to the ‘spot reduction’ myth. My best answer–expend more calories this week than you consume. In reality, it’s simply a question of energy balance. Expend more energy than you consume and you’ll lose weight.

Take care.
