Tax deduction for workout clothes

It simply depends on where you work. If you are a W2 employee, it might be difficult. If you get any 1099, then I agree with all the above people who said you CAN. My previous (note the tense) accountant said exactly what you were told.
I workout at home in a sports bra and cut-off sweat shorts.
I don’t buy sneakers for turf or other surfaces, expensive workout clothing, specific shirts and shorts, 4-5 one piece swim suits and 2 pair of aquatic shoes a year, expecting to wear them to the beach or a movie another time. All my work is 1099 and I’m required to look a specific way.
My new and wonderful ~by the book~ accountant has no problem deducting all of these things.
