Hi Denise,

this is a very open question. I assume you want inspiration for fitness-related reading material.

My # 1 suggestion is Thomas Myers ‘Anatomy Trains’ in conjunction with the Integral Anatomy Series by Gil Hedley which is also available on Youtube.

Hi Denise,

Is there any specific subject or type of training you interested in? This will give us a better idea to answer your question.

Thanks,
Harris

I am going to answer on the assumption that what you want is a general idea of some of the things other fitness people have found enjoyable/inspirational/informative. If that is wrong perhaps you could rephrase the question. Harris is right that that might help.

It looks like you have an interest in wellness and weight control. If you haven’t already read anything by Michael Pollan I think he is both inspirational and informative.

If you are interested in wellness, meditation, and brain science I would recommend Buddah’s Brain. It is not especially scholarly, but very interesting.

You seem to have a certification in both personal training and health coaching? A book I use in my beginner mindfulness class is The Pen and the Bell. It is a great tool for students who like to journal, and find writing a helpful tool for self reflection.

I also was kind of surprised how much I liked Jonathan Urla’s book Yogalates. I think he does a great job of writing about the intersection of these 2 disciplines.

I also recommend Anatomy Trains/Thomas Myers. I cannot find my old copy and I understand that there is a new print out, that is a second edition. So I will most likely just buy the new edition anyway. This book really ties it altogether and gives you a new view of the way we move in reality as opposed to the old vision of each muscle creating a movement in a plane of motion.
