Sore arms when I bicycle?
Hi Patricia,
no they should not, and if they do, it may be any number of reasons. For one, check your grip and how much strength you use. Muscles up the arm tighten along with the grip. Notice what your upper traps are doing. I often watch how cyclist almost have their shoulders up towards their ears and tighten the entire upper body.
On the assumption that the bicycle is fitted well for you, I would check those things first and see whether that makes a difference.

Hi Patricia. “Should?” I can’t really answer that since the “should” of anything depends a lot on the facts and circumstances of what’s happening. Let me answer by saying that under “normal circumstances” the arms don’t get noticeably tight when cycling, but again a lot depends on several factors (e.g. your body position when cycling; do you have any contributing physical/health condition that could/might cause this etc.). I would highly recommend that you make an appointment to see your physician and have him/her give you an examination to determine if there is any issue that needs to be addressed. I would do this NOW before continuing to cycle. Then and only then would I look into other equipment-type issues.
I hope that this helps.

Patricia,
Dopey question, but I gotta ask 🙂
Are you cycling outdoors or indoors?
More questions:
What kind of bike?
If outdoor, are you going over a lot of terrain (bumpy or rough road)?
How long have you been biking and experiencing sore arms?
Do you do any other activity or exercise?
Thanks in advance.
