I currently am only doing 1/1 training and have some interest for starting up a small group. I DO NOT want to start boot camp or use that term at all, just putting it out there. I don’t want to do no more than 6 girls, (I only work with women) and curious any idea on cost.
I’ve researched on internet and haven’t found too much. I live in california. One thing I did see is a company has 3-5 pay 25 an hour and 6-8 pay 15 an hour no matter how many days. So each person would pay that price? I saw one article on here, but didn’t give me a solid answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Need to figure out ASAP.
The number I’ve seen recommended from a Human Kinetics course on the business of personal training is a multiplier of what you’d charge for a one-on-one training session. For small group training, it’s twice the amount.
So if you charge $60/hour for private training, then you would charge around $120 total for a small group. That would range between $25-40 per session depending on the number of people you’re targeting.

Charge what you think your time is worth. How much tracking, monitoring, individual program modifying, and so forth will you be providing. Small group training is a lot more work if done fully to the extent of a professional personal training session. If each person in the group isn’t being trained to their individual needs, and their progress isn’t being tracked on a very personal level then you are better off considering it a class and charging your applicable fee. If these perameters are to be met then … charge what your worth. I charge 1 1/2 sessions price for couples + 1/2 for each additional participant, but never less than $20 per person.
1 client = $50, 2 clients = $75, 4 clients = $125. 6 clients = $175
1 client = $40, 2 = $60, 4 = $100. 6 clients = $140 (3 mo. commitment)
1 client = $35, 2 = $52.50, 4 = $87.50. 6 clients = $122.505 (6 mo. commitment)
Hi Amy. I’m sort of in line with what Melissa suggests here. I’m sure that in your initial pricing for individual training, you found variance in what trainers charged in your area. In my opinion, the small group market is no different. So, by basing what you charge each participant on YOUR individual training rate (say you charge a total of two times your individual rate as Melissa suggests) then you will be maintaining a pricing structure that’s in line with your other charges.

Personally I base my rates as to how much money I want to make and what my time is worth for me to travel at a location and train my clients. Sometimes the competition can have some effect on how much I will charge, but at the end it comes down to what I want and need to make in order to survive.
