Hello Mary St John,
You will want to be well rounded with strength and flexibility on both the left/right and anterior/posterior sides of the body. See how the body functions to decide what needs balancing out; this is specific to the individual.
Of course, do side bends and twists but be careful with the osteoporosis client. I would start with checking the functional form. A google search will give you many ideas, also…use your training to decipher the options.
Take care,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.

Hi Mary,

the technique of the golf swing should be left to a golf pro but as trainers we can assist clients in developing the dynamic strength necessary to generate the force for a long drive.

I work with my avid gofers on exercises that improve dynamic hip extension, also with rotation, like a reverse wood chop but also single leg deadlifts. A quick google search gave a result of exercises which I would pick for my golfing clients if they are otherwise capable of doing them. http://www.mensfitness.com/training/build-muscle/drive-the-ball-longer-w…

I’m not a golf pro, so as Karin mentioned, I don’t work on technique with clients.

However, I have used ViPR with several clients to work on movements that support their game.

Hi Mary,

I just came across this article from ACE today. It looks like a good resource for you to use with your client.

Hope it helps!

It would be better if I saw you in person and could evaluate your overall fitness and needs. To give you exercises that you “may” need, could also backfire as you may not be ready for some or already past others. In general, working spinal, abdominal, hip complex, shoulder complex, etc. for endurance and range of motion is a good place to start for any program.
