I know many say that you should not, so you have the opportunity to meet with them and show them how you can help them and what your services are worth. However, I personally post my rates on my site. This saves me from spending my time with someone who cannot fit my services into their budget. It also saves you from having the uncomfortable conversation about money/finances. I also get fewer people who try to get a discount or a good deal. I find posting my rates almost guarantees a lead to become a client once they come in for their initial consultation.
I am not sure whether it is better or not but I have my rates on my web site as well. My rationale is like Harris’. Not doing so will probably cause people not to call on the premise that ‘if you have to ask how much it is, you probably can’t afford it’.
I always post my rates on my site because I want people to know upfront if they can afford my services or not. There is no point going forward and spending time explaining my services to someone who will not be able to pay what I’m asking for. Plus, if you are not comfortable asking people for their money having your rates on your site will take care this part (if they decide they want to hire you).
