my club has been recently approached about adding nutrition tracking to our personal training offerings but I’m not quite sure if it’s going to be worth the investment. The software is supposed to help trainers recommend diet options for members while also helping members keep track of their nutrition intake to help them better reach their fitness goals. Does anyone have experience with a similar program?
the question that comes to my mind is whether your trainers are qualified to make such recommendations. I am sure you are aware of the ongoing debate of scope of practice when it comes to nutrition and personal training.
Do you have anyone on staff that is a nutritionist or dietician?
Even if I didn’t have a pause with scope of practice for a non-nutritionist giving meal plans to members (I do) and even if I knew the software was really effective and could account for allergies, sensitivities, illnesses, preferences, etc. I wouldn’t do it.
There’s no substitute for human interaction. So much of our diet is psychological, not just in the planning of the meal.
I would survey my memebers. And I would specifically ask for members ready to make a commitment to such a service program at this time. Do you have a lot of weight loss clientel? Have you had many inquiries for nutritional guidance?
And can you get a trial period from the company? I also don’t like to buy new services without being able to verify effectiveness and patron satisfaction with the system.
