Should following beat during a strength training class be a must?
Do you think being on beat and following musical phrases should be a must during strength training classes? I am having a hard time to follow musical phrases when I cue for the correct posture and emphasize the importance of the performed exercise, talk about the muscles that we are working, motivate the class…etc.
I never use music in my strength classes for this reason, I think too many people DO pick up the beat and try to stay with it, plus, as I tell my participants, I want them to be able to hear all my pearls of wisdom. =) Honestly I prefer people to focus on their lifting, breathing and executing the move safely rather than trying to move to the beat.
