I’ll just tell you the top 3 benefits of using a rowing machine:
– you’ll burn many calories
– you’ll enjoy doing it
– rowing machines, especially concept2 rowers, last a lifetime!
A multitude of total body conditioning benefits. In addition to the great answers given, one significant benefit of rowing, cross-country skiing, especially when double polling, is the training overload presented to the shoulder girdle adductors (mid-trap and rhomboids,) and the shoulder extensors and horizontal extensors (posterior region of the deltoid.)
Rowing machines are the best full-body workout machines in my opinion. One of the things I love the most about them are they are non-weight bearing. I used to be a runner and ran several races (marathons, etc) but I got hurt while training for my last marathon and to this day my knees and ankles don’t let me forget how much I “beat them up” over the years. When I’m on a rowing machine, I could workout as hard as I want, to the point I want to vomit, and I can walk around as if didn’t work out literally a few minutes later. I could NEVER do that after a long run or playing sports such as basketball, soccer, etc. This article highlights the benefits of a rowing machine in detail: http://www.rowingmachineking.com/rowing-machine-benefits/
