Rhabdomyolysis
I recently heard of a person that was hospitalized from an intense exercise session from a personal trainer. Unfortunately, that person was diagnosed with ” Rhabdomyolysis”.
Treatment in the hospital was multiple encisions in the skin to let the muscle swell to relieve pain and stress on the muscle and skin. Once the muscle recovered, skin was sutured.
Has anyone heard of similar cases?
Two other points about rhabdomyolyis:
1. It is more common in people on statins. Since they are already high risk it means we need to take extra care in training them.
2. Some Cross Fit boxes have a joke “Uncle Rhabdo was here today”, meaning the training was extra brutal. This is nothing to joke about, and we should do all we can to dispel this type of training mindset.
