Hi all. I have been looking through other topic “answer” section questions but wanted to post anyway in addition to the info I’m finding. I’m realizing that my passion really does lie more in the area of health and wellness coaching. Although I’m certified as a personal trainer, it is not NCAA recognized so some of the Health coach programs i’ve looked at do not recognize my experience and cert as meeting a pre-requisite. I have looked at Wellcoaches and the ACE healthe coach cert. I’ve also looked at Health Institute Coaching program (any feedback on it?) which looked extensive to me. I’m in dire need of information on a legitimate path into this career and any resource links would be appreciated. I’m interested in eventually working in corporate or community wellness environment versus independently. As always, everyone is so helpful, so thank you in advance!
I also have the ACE Health Coach certification and I’m very happy with it. It provided the missing link for me with regard to client behavior. I use it a lot in conjunction when training my clients.
It is good to look around and find a certification that meets your needs since you know the area in which you’d like to work. One suggestion I have for you is to reach out to some of those organizations in the community and make connections–and ask for an informational interview to discuss health coaching. I did this over the summer just to find out how marketable my ACE Health Coach cert would be if I ventured into the private wellness arena. I found out that with my years of personal training experience and health coach cert, I am more marketable than I thought (the company I interviewed with has their employees go through the Well Coaches certification). It may help you to make a decision on your certification.
It definitely helped me and gave me a boost of confidence!
Good luck to you!
