Quick online training question – Use weight amount?
I’d like to offer basic training plans online. For those of you who do this, do you write in the weight to use or just advise how heavy the weight should feel? I feel it makes more sense to advise how they should feel (i.e. you should have proper form but the last two reps should be very challenging, or, you should be able to do these reps for a full minute, etc) but didn’t know the best way to get that across. Thanks!
To my mind the answer depends on whether you have any prior experience working in-person with the client. If you do, then you should ave a sense of the actual weight that they can handle and can advise appropriately. If you have not, then my first question would be whether the person has done the particular exercise that you’re recommending, and if so, what weight they’ve used and how it felt. Then you can make a recommendation based on that. If neither of these are the case then I’d go with what you’ve suggested here.
I hope that this helps.

I agree with telling them how they should feel, especially since you are dealing with different fitness levels and experience. Now depending on the type of plan I am writing up, I will do a percentage of their one rep max. (ex: Bicep Curls at 60% 1RM performing 8 reps and 3 sets)
Since I am starting to do online training, hope you don’t mind but I will be following this conversation.
