program needs, expectations and limitations for a 25 year old male who regularly runs 10km road races
doing a fitness course and struggling to answers this question I said he probably needs to work on other fitness aspect like resistance training and flexibility because his cardio is obviously good. What other needs and expectations do you think he needs?? Also what sort of limitations would their be for a young 25 year old male already doing some exercise??
I don’t want to do all of your homework for you, but I’ll give you a few suggestions.
Is this all this young man does?
I like your reply that he needs resistance and flexibility. What kind of flexibility would be good for a runner (what gets tight because of his activity)?
If he’s only moving in the sagittal plane (running), what other movements might be good for him?
Hi Laura,
I would start with his goals–what is it that he wants to accomplish? Another race, a well balanced program? Then, sprinkle in what he needs, such as strength and flexibility. Along with Nancy’s suggestion, I would also add core strength and determine if he has any weaknesses or imbalances.
However, you are the best one to determine his needs…
Best,
Christine
Hi Laura,
it appears that this is not a real client situation but a question on a test, and you have no way of talking to this person.
Strength and flexibility are good starting points. A 25 years old man should not have any limitation on what he can do as long as he has no health issues. A musculoskeletal screening is still necessary to identify imbalances.

His program will depend on the type of race he is looking to participate at (short or long distance, triathlon, obstacle course, etc.). As for what he can improve the answer can be long or a short one depending on his limitations and imbalances. Diet can also be another thing he might need to work at.
