I’m looking to specialize in pre/post natal fitness in my area (Central NJ) and wanted to know which certifications other people have and why they chose that one. The few I found were offered through AFPA, Fit for Birth, and IFPA. I did notice that many trainers in the area who specialize in this area don’t hold certifications and I want to stand out and be considered an expert in the field, which is why I’m looking to get one. Any feedback would be great.
The most important points to consider when deciding on a Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness CE course are:
-How updated is the material?
-Is the information evidence-based and includes the most recent ACOG guidelines?
-Does the course offer a comprehensive section on the physiological changes of pregnancy and how exercise affects mother and fetus?
-Does the course offer information on how to modify exercise for every level of fitness and explain how to determine what exercises should or should not be included?
These are just a few of the many points that are important to consider when working towards gaining more competence in maternal fitness training.
