Personal Training with a 14 year old?
I normally work with mid age adults when it comes to Personal Training. Although I do have experience with kids when it comes to group classes(I teach martial arts part time outside my PT). However one of my Personal Training clients has asked me to work one day a week one on one with his son. And I was just looking for some advice when it comes to working with students that age. Due to the fact that hes to young for a PAR-Q would permission from the parents and basic medical information be sufficient in its place? Any advice would be appreciated.
Both my sons worked with trainers as young teens. They did this at two different gyms. One gym had a system of buying a specially priced package of 5 or 6 sessions with an individual trainer, and having to pass a test on gym etiquette, basic muscle anatomy, form of exercises, etc. The other used a small group format with a test after a similar number of sessions. Then there was a tiered use of the facility from 11 through 16 moving from parents on site, to parents off site, and from machines to free weight room, etc. In both cases the parents filled out the health forms and waivers.
