Personal Training and Massage
Hello all,
I’m a personal trainer (uncertified) working in the state of PA. Are there any requisites that I need to know of off hand (insurance, certifications, etc.) in order to be able to start working with clients either at their homes or at mine? I’m currently located in the State of PA.
Also, could anyone recommend me to a great masseuse (massage) insurance company that would cover a freelance masseuse without any certification/studies in the U.S.?
I really appreciate any answers with regards to the above questions.
Con amor,
Eric Waldron
Hello Eric Waldron, Jr.,
About Texas; you can start by asking at your potential employer what they require. Here is a link of Texas trainers I found through the Fitness Connect tab. You may want to contact them personally if none of them respond to your question. You may also find help through www.score.org.

Hello Eric Waldron, Jr.,
You can start by asking at your potential employer what they require; that’s what I did. I personal train in PA with the recommended NCCA certification, which there are many. The employer suggested ACE; so, after doing some research, I found a good nursing school and took the ACE course there. I have never been happier or looked back. The ACE site lists what you need:

Christine gave you a great answer.
If you are going to run a business, training and insurance are critical.
Fitness: What if someone gets hurt while you’re training them? Most insurance companies won’t cover you unless you’re certified. I don’t think you’d be breaking a law to personal train without a certification in your state.
Massage: Similar answer. However, I think that’s an even greater risk for you to do massage without a license because there are state standards for massage therapists whereas there are not state standards for personal trainers.
