Owner of health/fitness business thinking about working for a big name gym
I’ve owned my own health/fitness business for over 4 years now only offering small group training sessions and absolutely love it. I currently rent space at a personal training studio and it is rather expensive. I have been considering working for a big name gym so I can offer one on one training as well as focus on other things such as writing (articles/books) and working more with the community, etc. I am assuming that if I don’t have to worry about all of the administrative responsibilities that come with owning a business, I will have a chance to work on other things. What are the pros/cons with regard to working at a big name gym? I am only in the beginning stages of considering this (because I really love owning my own business)and just wanted some thoughts/opinions
The advantages of working in a big gym are the large number of clients you have access to, being able to do less of the business administration tasks and having other trainers to bounce ideas off of. Disadvantages are that you will likely be pushed to sell as much personal training as possible. You will likely have to work long hours to start unless you can take some of your existing clients. A large gym can also be a noisy, over stimulating environment.
