Not sure which self-study package for NASM CPT I should go with…
If we talk about self-study, then the best tool for this is the Internet. After all, there you can find a huge amount of information on various topics. For example, on this site https://ca.papersowl.com/do-my-assignment you can ask the professionals to do my assignment and get a high-quality and well-executed task. It is fast, high quality and cheap. And most importantly, by learning from examples, you yourself can learn much more effectively.
The study packages are expensive through NASM. I did the Self Study and it was $699. Looking back I would have gone with www.fitnessmentors.com . They have audio lectures which take you through the book and explain everything page by page. Its also much less expensive than the NASM packages.
Hello Jessica Ashman,
I would go with my gut, knowing what kind of a learner I am. To be sure that I pass the first time, I use all resources available to make sure I know the information inside and out, right side up and upside down, forward and backward. Remember, you will have what you purchase for reference later.
It may help to speak with NASM who can help you decide and maybe break up packages to what you need.
In the long run, the more you absorb, the better trainer you will be.
Good luck to you,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.
The first time around I would not put too much money into it unless you are going to attend classes in a classroom setting. And there is a much higher probability that you may need to retest if:
1) You aren’t a good test taker/student. If you struggled in school, you may need to work on how you study a bit first. I teach prep courses for the certification exams. And the first thing I ask a potential student is, how were your grades in high school/college in science classes? If they tell me they didn’t do so well, they are good candidates for my courses. I actually discourage good students from taking my courses unless they need help with the practical application.
If you aren’t that good of a student, I would recommend you buy the book/study materials and really read through the material carefully a few times over. I buy various textbooks just to read them for myself and read them at least two times through cover to cover. If the material is highly technical or advanced, I read the textbooks until I completely understand the material. I do the same with CECs that I take. And take notes in your own words as to what the material is about on each topic.
2) If you are not a good test taker. If you are not a good test taker, I recommend you do as many practice tests as you can. Taking tests is just like anything else, the more you do it the better you will be at doing it. When you take a practice test, treat it like it is the real deal. That will give you an idea of how well you do with the format. And when you look at the correct answers, really tear apart the question to try to see why and how the question was framed for that answer.
And try to relax. Yes, retaking the test is a pain and an expense. But people do have to retake cert exams. It isn’t a big deal. Doctors, dentists, and lawyers take their board/bar exams over and still become professionals.
I guess it depends on how you learn the best. I bought the “whole nine yards” package for my ACE personal trainer exam, but as it turned out, I only used the book (read it cover to cover) and wrote in my answers to the study guide, then made my own flash cards. I didn’t need all the extra stuff I paid for.
The prices for NASM must have gone up. 3 years ago, I think I paid about $800 for my materials, but I didn’t get the biggest package this time. One of my friends got an option that included just the book and a couple of practice tests. Then she used an app for her phone. Whenever she had down time, she answered the questions on the app. She passed with flying colors.
