After using Nike’s Fuel Band since the start of the year…I like it!
It tracks your steps, calories and time and doubles as a watch.
Also you can upload via bluetooth to your iphone, ipad etc.
You can also share and compare with other Fuel Band users via the web.
One compent I think would make this better would be a heart rate monitor.
I am not interested in the electronic “toys”; but, other people are. How is the device powered? Solar? I do not want to pay more for batteries that will be discarded. I think the motivation is fitting into the clothes and being able to do what we want. Keeping track on paper works well and talking to others face to face, is how I like to share information; not electronically. I feel society is becoming too impersonal.
I know a few people who use it and swear by it. But they were already exercising and use it as a way to eaily track and post their accomplishments. They find it really easy to use as well.
I would hope that it would get people who were not exercising or not exercising to the levels they need to be to meet their goals, doing more, but I’m not sure that any device will do that. Those changes need to be made more from within. However, if it helps to encourage them to do more because they can easily use and track their progress…then I’m all for it!
Hmmmm ….. an activity counter on steroids. I am sure it has appeal to the gadget-happy, and I can see it being a lot of fun to those who derive their motivation from such an interactive interface.
At this point of the nation’s lamentable state of activity, I am willing to endorse just about anything that will get people moving without it hurting them, and this band is in that category. If people are willing to shell out $149 for it and get moving as a result …. all the power to them.
