Need advice on exercise routine for 6 days a week to improve stamina and maintain fitness
It’s not likely that you are going to get a personal trainer to give you exercise advice through here.
Most of us require Par-Q, signed Waivers and Doctor release prior to talking exercise. I’m sure you could find someone local to you: http://www.ideafit.com/fitnessconnect
Hi Manoj,
congratulations on getting back on track with an exercise program. What I read is that you are doing weight training 4 days a week in a split routine, one day cardio and (I assume) yoga for flexibility.
What strikes me about your program is that you seem to limit your cardiovascular exercises. If your goal is to improve stamina (which I read as cardiovascular endurance) then cardio once a week is not enough. I would suggest to add some of it on to the weight training days, maybe as an extended warm-up. I realize that time can be a factor, and you may need to modify your weight training.
You do not specify what you do on your weight training days. Current thinking moves more and more towards whole body training rather than the ‘old school’ of weight machines or even dumbbells in linear movements. By its nature, core training is a part of this way of training. If you do not do any of that, I would suggest to educate yourself about it or possibly get a trainer to help you with it.
I wish you good luck in your pursuit of health and fitness.

I would also suggest for you to hire a trainer for a few sessions to help you with an effective and safe program. From the information you have provided here, it’s very difficult to give you any suggestions (many variables are missing). A trainer will do an assessment and then he/she will help you reach your goals efficiently.

I would second hiring a fitness professional. I mean, you came on here so you must be interested in getting some professional advice right? Here’s some things to think about before hiring a fitness professional. I wrote it in a blog so I don’t have to write it again lol. This is just some tips on hiring one, I’m sure you can come up with more on your own.

Hi Manoj,
I agree with the others in the room – I would consult with a qualified trainer in your area (look no further than this site) to assess your current program & make sure you’re on track to reach the goals you have in mind. Just an observation (as others have pointed out) – one cardio workout per week isn’t going to cut it for improving your cardiovascular endurance (aka stamina). You need to add at least 2 more in per week. Mix them in on the strength training days – they make a great warm up! Good luck with your training Manoj.
