I was able to workout with this new client the other day and she kept having to take breaks all the time and then told me she has high blood pressure and is on medicine but didn’t take it that morning so will the next time I see her. She just came with a friend to see if she wanted to hire me and does but I’m concerned about this and what I should do to help her but also don’t want to worry about working her out too hard! I always do some type of HIIT training with clients and don’t want issues obviously! Any help would be amazing!!
I work with clients who do have high blood pressure and they are on medications. I agree with all the others that a medical clearance is needed in some similar cases and talking with their doctor might be required to get a better picture of their condition and also any suggestions/recommendations regarding their patient. I’m not saying that this new client is in that level, but after you talk to her and do an assessment you should have a better understanding with what you are dealing with. HIIT might not be the best choice for this client. A lower intensity fitness program might be a better choice and with continuous communication and documentation with this client it will help you to re-evaluating her program often and then adjust accordingly. Make sure she is taking her meds and if you can take her BP before each workout it would be a great idea. I don’t know anything about her, so you will need to figure out how to proceed.
I hope this helps.
