Mid section workout
I have a client who is 125 lbs with 25% body fat, she is toned and lean except for her mid section. We do Pilates ab series and other Pilates excercises, ab machines, crunches, full sit ups with weights, and we’ve gotten into hoola hooping, still this is where most of her problem area is. Are there any different things we can do? Or some dietary change that may help?
Interesting responses, some I agree with, some I don’t. As we all know, body fat loss is a body-wise biochemistry. There are clearly genetic implications involved in how a given individual draws from adipose reserves, but keeping the Law of Energy Balance in mind, when caloric output is greater than caloric input the body will draw on its primary energy reserve, fat, to continue to power the system. Just go for a couple, maybe more, of powerful and challenging bike rides.
There are many good points on here and while it might not help directly with body fat percentage the spinal extension exercises David mentioned would do a number of good things: assuming that these exercises are considered safe for her they would improve her muscle balance and in turn her strength, endurance, posture, flexibility and possibly self confidence. Just make sure to switch things up good luck!
