Micro-gym site finding and startup expectations
I currently do mostly in-home training, but I’m considering getting my own small location (1,000 ish sf) to set up a micro-gym for 1 on 1 and small group training. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with setting up a business of this type. Currently I’m looking around for a micro-warehouse type industrial space, to minimize rent, preferably with a garage door, to allow for easy movement of equipment outdoors in the warmer seasons, but there seems to be a lack of easy accessibility to listings of that sort on-line. So my main questions are how did you go about finding your space, and was there any unforeseen difficulties with starting up. I have a good concept of how my marketing and cash flow will look, but any feedback would be appreciated.
Hi Kent. I think that if you have decided that having your own location makes sense for you at this stage in your career, then your idea on starting ‘small’ makes a lot of sense. Whether that location ultimately is a warehouse type setting or something else, I would advise visiting a number of different locations before you make a final decision. Utilizing warehouse space for a workout site seems to be popular with such chains as Crossfit, so your idea is NOT foreign to our industry. As Karin and others point out, just make sure that you consider ALL potential issues such as water seepage.
Good luck!
